Arnfinn H. Midtbøen earned his Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Oslo in 2013. Midtbøen works on a broad set of research issues related to immigration, citizenship, integration and patterns of exclusion and inclusion in the labour market. Currently, he is head of two large-scale research projects, on second generation immigrants in education and working life in Norway, and on boundaries of free speech in the Norwegian public sphere. Midtbøen’s research has appeared in journals like British Journal of Sociology, Ethnicities and Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies.
Midtbøen was picked out as one of 20 members when The Young Academy of Norway was established in 2015. He is co-editor of the high quality Norwegian journal, Journal of Social Research and board member of the Norwegian network for migration research. He is member of the IMISCOE network’s Board of Directors, and is co-chair of the IMISCOE research cluster Discrimination in Cross-National Perspective. Midtbøen spends the spring semester 2017 at the City University of New York City, as a visiting scholar at the CUNY Graduate Center.
