Lawrence Rose took his M.A. degree in 1967 and his Ph.D. degree in Political Science in 1976, both at Stanford University in California, USA. He was Assistant Professor at the University of Virginia 1975-82 and Fulbright visiting professor at the University of Oslo 1979-80.
From 1982-91 he was a senior research fellow at the Norwegian Institute for Urban and Regional Research (NIBR) and served in a part-time position as a professor designate at the Department of Political Science 1985-88. He was appointed Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science in 1989, and Professor in 1993. Since 2010 he has also held a position as adjunct professor and senior research fellow at the Center for International Climate and Environmental Research (CICERO) in Oslo.
